BIAS CUT COSTUMES
ANNABELLA SCHMITT COSTUME
Kate was requested to make Annabella Schmitts costume, for The Richard Burton Company's production of The 39 Steps in 2022.
Using the draping method, Kate constructed the bespoke bias cut dress with the added complication of a costume prop quick change.
Due to the fabric being cut on the bias, there was a lot of waiting time for the fabric to stretch and fall with the weight of gravity before completing the final stitches.
PRODUCTION - THE 39 STEPS

COSTUME DESIGNER - AMY ADAIR

There were several elements to consider when constructing this costume as it was being made for an opera singer - Kate had to ensure to leave enough breathing room around the bodice of the jumpsuit so the singer had the lung capacity needed to perform in it.
