Here you can view a range of Kate's projects that adventure past the sewing machine!
The giant wearable rat head was inspired by an opera called The Love For Three Oranges. The story includes a beautiful princess who gets turned into a human sized rat by a witch.
Working with a combination of polystyrene, air dry clay, wobla, a scoldering iron, silicone casts, adhesive, faux fur fabric and some paint, Kate constructed the giant rat head.
The giant ice cream hat was inspired by the Hanzel and Gretal Opera. A story of two children lost in the forest and are lured by a lovely old lady into an enticing sweet treat house, only to be tricked and find out the old lady is infact a witch.
Kate wanted the giant ice cream hat to be wearable and secure on the performers head, with the options to have straps for extra security. Using a adjustable bike helmet, expanding foam, scrim, pva glue and paint, Kate constructed the giant ice cream. The adjustable bike helmet gave the wearer ability to a tighten the fit to their comfort while also offering a secure fit to all wearers.
